Sharing your entire communication traffic - what you read, what you search for, what you buy, what you write - with a third party is about as intrusive as it is possible to get. Doing that in secret to tens or even hundreds of thousands of people, you would expect, would get you prosecuted and jailed. At least, that's what you'd expect. The reasons why no one is in prison yet are just a complete mystery to me. Copyright theft, industrial espionage, and that's before you start to contemplate the personal privacy intrusion.
