The late stage implementation PIA by 80/20 Thinking is now out and on the Phorm website. Looks like it was finished 28th July, published today.

It merits careful reading and I recommend that we do NOT rubbish either the report or Simon Davies - that would not be a smart move. Constructive criticism will be far more effective - accepting the good bits and challenging omissions or uncertainties.

If we just hoot with derision or make rude comments we will be quoted endlessly and denigrated (and I think we will deserve it).

Particularly important are issues over opt-in/opt-out, the role of the ISP, (and where it differs from the role of Phorm) ongoing monitoring to prevent mission creep, and the new buzz word "perception". Learn that word and know what the agenda is. We are now being "educated" to accept behavioural targetted advertising, and the use of DPI to accomplish it.

It's like the curate's egg. I only like bits of it. But it is worth a careful read, and a careful analysis. And a thoughtful detailed response.

I've just read it and there's a lot of problems with it. I expect Phorm have been using this as part of their lobbying for some time so we have some catch up now.

While it states Phorm is engaged in a war of perceptions, we need to make it clear our perception of them is based on their actual actions.

I have two things to say:

1/. The report may be endepth and well constructed within the remit that 80/20 Thinking were given, however there is NO further information in the Report that could possible allay concerns.

2/. Quote page 10: "In our view, Phorm should ensure that ISPs using its system clearly communicate with their users about the issues involved in Phorm Technology surveillance," -

Has this Report let slip the REAL intention of Webwise?...
