i notice how the article points out :

“A law like this essentially takes some of the gold away from marketers,” said Joseph Turow, a professor at the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Pennsylvania. “But it’s the right thing to do. Consumers have no idea how much information is being collected about them, and the advertising industry should have to deal with that.”

----------------------------------------------------/

Joe public might not have an idea as to what information is being collected and how it is being collected but you cant pull the wool over everyones eyes especially the more computer literate public. Phorm in its current form is illegal no matter how much you try and spin it. Phorm is certainly not wanted, its not needed so why the continual PUSHY attitude by PHORM that its the best thing since sliced bread ?

To be fair on this point they are trying to set up and run then presumably sell a profitable business! Albeit one that hopefully the vast majority of people don't want!

and failing miserably. As the dailymash put it

"...Phorm tracks the websites visited by individuals and then uses the information to make tailored advertising campaigns encouraging consumers to buy yet more phucking rubbish...."

we already have many freeview channels and sky channels in the uk if people want to buy rubbish. They dont need targeted advertising xD
