According to the BBC article:

"[A BT spokesman] said research BT had carried out had shown that customers did want more relevant advertising as a result of their surfing habits being tracked online."

I see a lot wrong with that statement. Phrased like that, it may be true ('customers' merely indicates more than one). Or maybe responding affirmative to "Do you think advertising is irrelevant to you?" could give you the start and the rest is assumption.

I have sent a couple of emails to BT asking to see this research with no success. Anyone feel like adding to the preassure?
