I have sent the following to Regional Newspapers and Radio Stations in Scotland:

PRESS RELEASE on behalf of the Anti-Phorm/Webwise Campaign (UK)

At 10am, tomorrow, the 16th July 2008; a Demonstration will be conducted after the BT AGM, outside the Barbican Centre on Silk Street, London.

The Demonstration is aimed at educating members of the General Public about the Controversial Phorm 'Webwise' System, and the implications this System will have in regards of an individual's Privacy whilst surfing the Internet.

The Phorm ‘Webwise’ System will utilise Deep Packet Inspection Technology, and is intended to be located with the Network of ISPs. The purpose of the Technology is to Intercept Port 80 (http requests) and creates a profile of the End User’s browsing habits.

The ISPs that have been indicated to being affected by the System at launch are BT, Virgin Media and Talk Talk, who have a combined reach in excess of 70% of the UK’s Broadband Users.

There is a great deal of concern with this Technology, due to the lack of openness by the ISPs who have signed Contracts with Phorm. And also due to the history of Phorm, who were formerly known as 121Media and were once blacklisted by various Virus Software Companies for Installing Rooktkits onto an End User’s PC. Additionally, the Patents for the System indicate that the System is capable of more than has been publically acknowledged by Phorm, BT, Virgin Media and Talk Talk.

Various Guest Speakers have been confirmed, including Baroness Sue Miller.
