As most people know, Schneier is a legend and now also the Chief Security Technology Officer of BT.

I just stumbled on one of his quotes that I thought was great:

"It is poor civic hygiene to install technologies that could someday facilitate a police state."

I hope he's been involved with talks within BT on Phorm.

Read Schneier on Phorm here. What's said between the lines is pretty clear.

I'd love to think he was working against Phorm from the inside, but this is a respected security expert in real danger of compromising his position if not.

I hope that he either gets BT to where they ought to be, or , if not, has the cojones to break his ties with them.

@Mid

BT Retail (bast*rds) and BT Wholesale (OpenReach) are parting company slowly but surely. [ A BT Retail manager admitted this to me a few weeks ago, as we discussed how sh*tty BT Retail has become ]. Local loop unbundling is going to be the demise of BT Retail (the one we think of as BT).

'BT' the one that most people think of as the old GPO are BT Wholesale (OpenReach) not BT Retail (just another sh*tty telecoms provider company).

Think of it like British Gas, that isn't the old British Gas we all knew and loved that is 'Transco' ... British Gas nowadays is just another front company trading on an old name.

BT Retail will be and still are trading on a name, the old name BT

I don't know if BT Retail will still be the biggest telecoms service provider in the UK (not sure how many thousands of jobs are going this year) in the near future. But in the next few years there will be other companies seriously competing with BT Retail (the sh1t company). Consumers will have a real choice of who will provide them a communications package.

One thing I'm pretty sure about is that Bruce Schneier is not going to put his name alongside an unethical sh1t company like BT Retail (as it presently stands with the current management)
